Playoff Results
The NCHSAA Cheerleading Invitational took place at the Raleigh Convention Center featuring routines in junior varsity and varsity divisions, as well as Gameday and Competitive Cheer divisions. The Tarheel Trophy, in its second season at the Cheer Invitational, is awarded to the top varsity team regardless of division in the gameday cheerleading competition.
Lake Norman's squad finished first in the Large Varsity D1 Division with a score of 77.3.
At the 3A Track/Field State Championships, Janiya Johnson, a junior from Statesville captures gold with a time of 7.00 in the 55M Women's competition.
The Statesville Mens 4X200 team of junior Davin Clarke, senior Titus Myers, sophomore Nicholas Porter, and junior Jaylen Himes placed second with a time of 1:33.15 for 3A.
In 4A action, Lake Norman senior Logan Dingman placed 3rd in the 4A Mens 1000M with a time of 2:32.17.
At the 3A Individual Wrestling State Championships, North Iredell finished strong with a team score of 70. Two North Iredell wrestlers took home gold while another advanced to the championship round.
3A 138 lbs Championship: Bray Trivette (North Iredell) dec. Shayden Edwards (East Rowan), 14-8.
3A 220 Championship: Edison Flores (North Iredell) dec. Landon Sargent (Cape Fear), 6-3. Sixth: Nicholas Martinez (Hickory).
3A 182 lbs Championship: Nicholas Mascolino (Union Pines) pinned Brixon Burgess (North Iredell), 2:49.
In the 4A State Championships, Eli Murray of Lake Norman advanced to the Championship round in the 132 lb class while teammate Tiaj Thao finished fifth (113 lb).
The 2A State Championship saw a top finish from Elias Martinez of Jay M Robinson who finished fourth in the 170 lb class.
The NCHSAA crowned champions at its Girls Wrestling Invitational. The two-day event culminated with competitions in 12 weight classes.
ISS Athletics wrestler, Caleigh Suddreth of Lake Norman won first place in the 145 lb Division.
1st Place Match: Caleigh Suddreth (Lake Norman) 16-1, Jr. over Keira Rosenmarkle (Seaforth) 23-6, Fr. (Fall 2:43)
Nevaeh Banks of Lake Norman captured second place in the 152 lb weight class.
1st Place Match: Natalie Titus (Havelock) 24-2, Jr. over Nevaeh Banks (Lake Norman) 18-4, Sr. (Fall 3:09)
This marks the final year the NCHSAA will hold the girls wrestling invitational. Beginning with the 2023-2024 season, girls wrestling will become a sanctioned sport in North Carolina, making the sport eligible to hold state championship competitions.
