State Championship Winter Recap 2021-2022

WEST IREDELL & LAKE NORMAN ATHLETES TAKE HOME GOLD

ISS athletes bring home gold from the 4A NCHSAA Indoor Track & Field Championship.

Junior Alaya Gillespie of West Iredell took home double honors, jumping her way to 1st place in the Girls Long Jump, 17-05.50-06.00 and winning the 300M.

Senior Drew Evans of Lake Norman wins 1st place in the Boys Pole Vault clearing 14 feet.

Maddie Huecker wins the 1600 and breaks the record while capturing gold.

MADDIE HUECKER, LAKE NORMAN SHATTERS 1600 METER RECORD

Maddie Huecker from Lake Norman beat the 1600 Meter Run all-Classification record at the 4A NCHSAA Indoor Track & Field Championship.  She crossed in 4:53.08 leading a pack of six racers who all eclipsed the old State Meet Record of 4:57.77 set by Nevada Mareno of Leesville Road in 2015.

LAKE NORMAN WINS GOLD IN WRESTLING INVITATIONAL

At the fourth annual Women’s Wrestling Invitational at the Rise Indoor Sports Complex, an ISS athlete took top honors.

Caleigh Suddreth of Lake Norman took home the 1st place medal in the 152 Lb weight class in her match with Sophia Ozanich of Jack Britt.

THREE ISS ATHLETES PLACE IN 3A WRESTLING CHAMPIONSHIP

Athletes from Statesville & North Iredell placed in the 3A NCHSAA Wrestling Championships.  Winners include:

2nd Place -  Parker Gaillher, Statesville (126 Lb)

2nd Place - Bray Trivette, N Iredell (138 Lb)

6th Place - Eddie Flores, N Iredell (220 Lb)
